Trump Still Reads The Room Well
--
Be thoughtful about the messages that will win November
You must listen to Donald Trump’s latest campaign ad: A Nation in Decline.
“We are a nation in decline.
“We are a failing nation.
[Thunderous lightning strikes in the background.]
“We are a nation that has the highest inflation in over forty years.
[Rain falls menacingly.]
“We are a nation that is begging Venezuela and Saudi Arabia for oil.
“We are a nation that surrendered in Afghanistan.
“We are a nation that allowed Russia to devestate a country, Ukraine.
“We are a nation that has weaponized its law enforcement against the opposing political party.
“We are a nation that no longer has a free and fair press.
[Poignant piano chords.]
“We are a nation that is hostile to liberty and freedom and faith.
“We are a nation that has allowed…China to use the trillions and trillions it has taken from the United States to build a military to rival our own.”
“We are a nation that in many ways has become a joke.”
We’ve heard just about every one of these statements of despair from an uncle at Thanksgiving dinner, from grandparents who miss yesterday’s America, from the “self-made” personality du jour, and certainly from the current Republican party.
Folks can reasonably criticize former President Donald Trump for a legion of venalities. He can be horribly course and remarkably unkind.
But we do have to give him credit.
